When signing your documents, it is sometimes necessary to ask signers to provide additional information. To facilitate this, easily add a text input field when preparing your signature requests, templates, and forms by following this guide.

Discover Text Input Fields

Text input fields allow signers to provide additional information directly on the document to be signed.

Text input fields are available on signature requests, templates, and forms in the One, Plus, Pro, and Scale subscriptions. They are not available on the Free plan.

You can use text input fields to have signers copy a specific text. Refer to our dedicated article for tips.

Add a text Input Field

When preparing your document, you can add a text input field by:

  • Adding a signer by clicking "Add Signer."

  • Providing their information or selecting them from your contact list.

  • Dragging the text input field to where you want it to appear on your document.

  • Adding the question (or instructions) you want to ask your signer.

  • By default, the text input field will be "Required" for the associated signer (they can only sign the document once the answer to your question is provided). If your question is optional, deselect the "Required" option.

  • If needed, you can add instructions or additional information:

    • Activate the "Add instructions, information, or text to copy" option.

    • Fill in the field with necessary instructions.

    • Choose the size of the text input field:

      • Small (approximately 31 characters)

      • Large (approximately 128 characters)

    • If you want to copy a text, check the "Adjust the response area to the text of the instructions" box.

Note that the field size impacts the number of characters allowed for the response: remember to resize the field to increase the allowed character count.

  • Changing the font by clicking on the arrow at the end of the "font" field and selecting your desired font.

  • Changing the text size by clicking on the arrow at the end of the "size" field and choosing your desired text size. The sizes range from 8 to 22.

  • Changing the text color by clicking on the black box and either selecting one of our pre selected colors or entering the color code of your desired color next to the "#".

  • Choosing the font style of your text. To put it in Bold, select "B", to put it in italic, select "I".

  • Click "Save."

The default font is "Inconsolata", the text size is 12 and the text color is black. You can save any formatting as a default in your Settings.

You can add multiple text input fields per signer. Repeat these actions if you need to add other text input fields for other signers.
