Discover Text Input Fields
A text input field lets you ask your signers for additional information directly on the document to be signed. For example, you can request a phone number, job title, or any specific answer relevant to your agreement.
Where can I use text input fields?
Text input fields are available in:
Signature requests
Templates
Forms
They are included in the One, Plus, Pro, and Scale plans. Not available on the Free plan.

Add a text input field
When preparing your document, you can add a text input field by:
Going to your document preparation screen.
Click on “Add a Signer” and either fill in their details or select a contact.
From the toolbar, drag the Text input field onto your document.
Click on the field and then on the pen symbol to open the settings.
In the settings panel, you can:
(Optional) Enter your question or instructions (e.g., “Please enter your phone number”), if context is needed for signers.
Use the Required toggle to mark the field as either Required or Optional.
(Optional) Add additional instructions by enabling the Show instructions toggle.
Fill in the instructions field to provide more context for the signer.
You can pre-fill a value that will appear in the field when the signer opens the document. This value can be modified by the signer unless you select Read-only.
Set a maximum number of characters your signer can enter (Max length).
This is optional. If not set, the size of the field itself limits the number of characters.
If set, signers cannot go over the specified character limit, even if there seems to be space left.
You can also format the text input:
Font: Choose from different fonts
Font size: Choose from 7 to 96
Font color: Select from a palette or enter a hex code
Font style: Use Bold (B) or Italic (I)
Once ready, click “Save”.
The default font is "Inconsolata", the text size is 12 and the text color is black. You can save any formatting as a default in your Settings.
Edit a text input field
Hover over the field on your document.
Click the pencil icon to open the settings.
Make any changes you need:
Update the question or instructions
Change the Required setting
Adjust the max length
Edit font settings (size, style, color, font)
Click “Save”.
Move or resize a text input field
Move a text input field:
Hover over the field.
Click and hold the field.
Drag and drop it to the desired location.
Resize a text input field:
Hover over the field.
Click and hold one of its borders.
Drag to make it larger or smaller.
Reminder: The size of the field limits how much text a signer can enter, unless you’ve set a Max length, in which case both the field size and the character limit apply.
Remove a text input field
Hover over the field you want to delete.
Do one of the following:
Click the trash can 🗑️ icon, or
Click the field and press the backspace ⬅️ key on your keyboard.
