When preparing a document for a signature request, you have several options to customize and control its fields.
Learn more about Yousign’s field properties.
Field name
You can assign custom names to fields in your documents to help identify and organize them more easily. This applies to text inputs, mentions, checkboxes, and radio buttons.
Custom field names make it simpler to retrieve data in exports or via API integrations.
If you don’t set a custom name, a default name will be automatically assigned.
Field names are not visible to signers but they can help you manage your documents more efficiently.
Field default value
You can pre-fill fields with known information before sending a document for signature.
Default values can be set for text inputs, checkboxes, and radio buttons during document preparation.
Signers will see the prefilled values and can either keep them or make changes if needed.
Field read-only
As the creator, you can pre-fill fields and set them as read-only to ensure signers cannot modify them.
When a field is marked as read-only, its value remains fixed throughout the signing process.
