Edit a sent signature request

Once the signature request is sent, various recipients (approvers, signers, and copy recipients) will be invited to validate, sign, and/or follow the signature request based on the signature request's settings. You can make various types of modifications:

  • You can edit the information of an approver.

  • You can edit the information of a signer.

  • You can add or edit copy recipients (e.g., followers).

  • You can edit the due date.

  • You can pause the signature request to apply broader changes, such as replacing documents, editing fields, or modifying recipients.

Edit the approver's details


As long as the approver has not approved the signature request, you can modify their information. Here's how:

  • Locate the signature request you want to modify.

  • Click on the name of the signature request in the "To approve" status that you want to edit.

  • This takes you to the details page of the signature request.

  • Click on the "..." to the right of the approver you want to edit.

  • Click on "Edit."

  • Adjust the approver's information:

    • Name

    • First name

    • Email (a new email will be sent to them)

    • Language

  • Validate by clicking "Update recipient."

Note: You cannot modify the information of an approver if they have already approved the signature request.

Edit the signer's details


As long as the signer has not signed the signature request, you can modify their information. Here's how:

  • Access the Signatures page.

  • Locate the signature request you want to modify.

  • Click on the name of the signature request in the "To approve" or "In progress" status that you want to edit.

  • This takes you to the details page of the signature request.

  • Click on the "..." to the right of the signer you want to edit.

  • Click on "edit."

  • Adjust the signer's information:

    • Name

    • First name

    • Email (a new email will be sent to them)

    • Phone number

    • Language

    • Authentication method (only if using Simple Electronic Signature)

  • Validate by clicking "Update recipient."

Note: You cannot change the information of a signer if they have already signed the signature request.

Add and edit followers


It is possible to add followers and modify existing ones. Here's how:

  • Access the Signatures page.

  • Locate the signature request you want to edit.

  • Click on the name of the signature request you want to edit.

  • This takes you to the details page of the signature request.

  • Click on "Share."

  • Add followers if necessary.

  • Remove followers if necessary.

Edit the due date


Once you have sent your signature request, you can modify its expiration date at any time:

  • Access the Signatures page.

  • Locate the signature request you want to edit.

  • Click on the name of the signature request.

  • This takes you to the details page of the signature request. The due date is displayed at the top left next to the ⌛️ icon.

  • Click at the top right on "..." next to the green button and select "Edit expiration date."

  • Select the new expiration date on the calendar (you can shorten or extend it up to one year).

  • Validate your choice by clicking "Update expiration date."

Pause to make broader changes


If you need to make changes that go beyond recipient details or the due date (such as replacing a document, adjusting fields, or adding and removing recipients) you can pause the signature request to edit it without canceling it.

While paused, recipients cannot access their signing link. They will not receive any notification during the pause.

Note: Pausing is available when no recipient has yet opened their signing link. If a recipient has already opened their link, the option will not be available.

Pause the signature request

  1. Open the signature request from your Signatures page.

  2. Click ... (More actions) at the top right of the page.

  3. Select Edit request.

  4. A confirmation dialog appears: click Continue to confirm the pause.

The signature request status changes to Paused. Automatic reminders are suspended.

Edit the signature request

While paused, most of the editing options as in draft mode are available: you can replace documents, adjust fields, modify recipients, reorder signers, and more.

Important: You cannot change the reminder frequency. Reminder schedules are automatically determined based on the signature request's original creation date and remain unchanged when the request is edited.

Resume the signature request

Once you have finished making changes, click Resume to reactivate the signature request. It returns to its previous status (In Progress or Pending Approval).

Recipients added at the current active step will be notified. Recipients who were removed will no longer have access to their signing link.

Cancel the signature request


If you want to edit:

  • any of the documents in your signature request

  • the authentication method of a signer who has already signed

  • the signature level

  • add or remove a signer

  • add or remove an approver

You must cancel the ongoing signature request, then duplicate it and make the modifications.

If you cancel a signature request, approvers and signers will no longer have access.
